Volunteer: Volunteer to Drive - You'll Get a Pick Me UpWhen transportation is a cancer patient’s biggest roadblock to treatment, we help provide the rides that can help save lives. The American Cancer Society Road to Recovery program offers cancer patients free transportation to and from their cancer-related treatment. For those who cannot drive themselves or have no other means of getting to treatment, volunteers donate their spare time and the use of their personal vehicle to give cancer patients in their community a much-needed ride.
Right now, one of the biggest barriers to cancer care is transportation. Because, even the best treatment can’t work if a patient can’t get there. Family and friends may help, but over the course of several months, they may not always have the time or financial means to provide every ride.Volunteer using your own car to help drive patients in your community to and from their lifesaving chemotherapy and radiation treatments throughout Will County... This opportunity is for weekdays (during the day). This is a very flexible opportunity that can make all the difference to a cancer patient who is not able to get to treatment.Visit www.cancer.org/drive for more information! Volunteer: Will County Justice Access Corps (WillCoJAC) VolunteerWill County Justice Access Corps (WillCoJAC) is an innovative program at the downtown courthouse in Joliet that enhances access to justice for the growing number of self-represented litigants (SRLs) by empowering and training student interns and volunteers to assist them as they navigate the court system on their own. People coming to court without a lawyer often do not know where to go, what to ask for or who to see for documents. They may be confused, intimidated and scared. WillCoJAC members serve as guides to help make the courts more welcoming and less intimidating. WillCoJAC assistance allows SRLs to accomplish the purpose of their visit more effectively. Members receive thorough training, which includes a review of the various activities in the courthouse, available resources and most importantly, the difference between legal information and legal advice. Responsibilities include: Assisting SRLs in the Self-help Legal Center and other assigned locations within the courthouse by providing legal information and connecting them to available legal aid resources. Directing SRLs to the various locations within the courthouse to help them complete the steps necessary to move forward with their legal matters. Answering general questions about the legal process and making referrals to legal aid and other services when necessary. For more information and to apply, please contact Will County Justice Access Corps Coordinator and Law Librarian Jeane Fillipitch via email at jfillipitch@willcountyillinois.com or by calling 815-774-7887 M-F between the hours of 8:30-4:30.
