We need volunteers to help deliver 400 meals to seniors' doors in three separate sites: Greenleaf Apt. and McKenzie Falls in Bolingbrook; and Romeoville Gardens in Romeoville

Each meal consists of a frozen turkey breast, a box of ready to prepare sides and a fresh pumpkin pie.

We have been doing this for years and we have a great system in place, we just need volunteers to deliver the items to their doors.

Volunteer: Volunteer to Drive - You'll Get a Pick Me Up

When transportation is a cancer patient’s biggest roadblock to treatment, we help provide the rides that can help save lives. The American Cancer Society Road to Recovery program offers cancer patients free transportation to and from their cancer-related treatment. For those who cannot drive themselves or have no other means of getting to treatment, volunteers donate their spare time and the use of their personal vehicle to give cancer patients in their community a much-needed ride.

Right now, one of the biggest barriers to cancer care is transportation. Because, even the best treatment can’t work if a patient can’t get there. Family and friends may help, but over the course of several months, they may not always have the time or financial means to provide every ride.

Volunteer using your own car to help drive patients in your community to and from their lifesaving chemotherapy and radiation treatments throughout Will County... This opportunity is for weekdays (during the day). This is a very flexible opportunity that can make all the difference to a cancer patient who is not able to get to treatment.

Visit www.cancer.org/drive for more information!

Volunteer: Virtual Girl Scout Troop Leaders needed!

Even as we all practice social distancing, Girl Scouts is still a place where girls can feel supported and share honest conversations about what they’re feeling. Knowing that they have a mentor and someone that supports them can help. In addition, there are tens of thousands of other troops in this sisterhood that are also figuring things out can be comforting to many girls. Have fun working with a minimum of one other adult to lead a small group of girls in planning, carrying out and evaluating activities in ways that help them develop values, foster a sense of worth, relate to others, and contribute to their community. Flexible time commitment based on your availability and schedule.

Would you like to help a girl change the world?

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest and most prestigious award a Girl Scout can earn. Girls undertake large-scale projects on issues they care about and that effect their local, national or international community. The projects typically happen over the course of a year and involve identifying an issue, investigating its impact, getting help, planning, presenting, taking action and educating.

Our Gold Award Committee members ensure that girls have the tools and support they need to complete these steps and earn this distinct honor. Committee members can help with interviews, serve as mentors, help plan the annual Gold Award ceremony, attend annual committee meetings, and more. This is an ideal position for individuals interested in mentoring, interviewing and advising high school age girls.

The time commitment is flexible, but we would like you to provide at least one evening or weekend block of time (3 hours) a month. Specific opportunities and scheduling will be discussed after the application process is complete. Exact locations for interviews are up to volunteer discretion with Staff approval. On-line or Skype is also an option for interviews.

REQUIREMENTS

All volunteers must be 18 years of age and older. This volunteer role requires an informal interview by phone with Council staff. Committee on-boarding documents, mentoring and training tools will be provided. Following the informal interview, volunteers in this role are required to register as members of Girl Scouts ($25/year), and complete a criminal background check.

Volunteer: Will County Justice Access Corps (WillCoJAC) Volunteer

Will County Justice Access Corps (WillCoJAC) is an innovative program at the downtown courthouse in Joliet that enhances access to justice for the growing number of self-represented litigants (SRLs) by empowering and training student interns and volunteers to assist them as they navigate the court system on their own. People coming to court without a lawyer often do not know where to go, what to ask for or who to see for documents. They may be confused, intimidated and scared. WillCoJAC members serve as guides to help make the courts more welcoming and less intimidating.

WillCoJAC assistance allows SRLs to accomplish the purpose of their visit more effectively. Members receive thorough training, which includes a review of the various activities in the courthouse, available resources and most importantly, the difference between legal information and legal advice.

Responsibilities include:

Assisting SRLs in the Self-help Legal Center and other assigned locations within the courthouse by providing legal information and connecting them to available legal aid resources. Directing SRLs to the various locations within the courthouse to help them complete the steps necessary to move forward with their legal matters. Answering general questions about the legal process and making referrals to legal aid and other services when necessary.

For more information and to apply, please contact Will County Justice Access Corps Coordinator and Law Librarian Jeane Fillipitch via email at jfillipitch@willcountyillinois.com or by calling 815-774-7887 M-F between the hours of 8:30-4:30.

Volunteer: Reach Out & Read Program

The Reach Out and Read program initiated at the Health Center strengthens the link between literacy and a healthy childhood. The Program consists of modeling reading by volunteers in the waiting room, anticipatory guidance for parents from pediatric clinicians who are trained in the importance of literacy, and in strategies to promote books and reading, and finally giving each child a developmentally and culturally appropriate book to take home at each check-up

The goal is for each child to have 10 new books to call their own by the time they are school age. Volunteers to read to the children in the waiting room are needed to ensure the success of this endeavor. If you are looking for a worthwhile way to give back to your community and show a child the pleasure of reading and looking at books together we need YOU!

At The Will County Community Health Center along with the need for volunteers to read to our patients, we also need donations of books for the children to utilize while waiting to see a provider.  Any donations are greatly appreciated
