Sertoma Speech and Hearing Center is a nonprofit organization, a 501(c)(3), dedicated to speech and hearing health care. Since opening our first clinic in 1978, all our patients have received professional care regardless of their ability to pay. From newborns to senior adults, our patients receive the finest diagnostic services, treatment, counseling, rehabilitation, and one-on-one personal care.
Our mission is simple: Connect to, communicate with, and care for one another by providing superior assessment and treatment to anyone who experiences hearing, speech and language disorders so they can Drive the Power of Communication in their lives.
Our ability to fulfill this mission is only made possible because of the generous financial support of all our stakeholders-Sertoma clubs, foundations, businesses, United Way chapters, individuals and you-who invest in us every year. We are in need of Board of Directors to help us keep the mission going.
As the highest leadership body of the organization the board is responsible for • supporting the mission and purposes of the organization • evaluating the performance of the executive director • assisting the Executive Director with strategic and organizational planning • ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management • fundraising and resource development • approving and monitoring Sertoma Speech and Hearing Centers’ programs and services • enhancing Sertoma Speech and Hearing Centers' public image • assessing its own performance as the governing body of Sertoma Speech and Hearing Centers.
Each board member is expected to • know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs • faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements • serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for Sertoma Speech and Hearing Centers to advance its mission • leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve Sertoma Speech and Hearing Centers' mission • give a meaningful personal financial donation • help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising • prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in 6 board meetings per year via Zoom/Teams • participate fully in one or more committees.
