Description

Girl Scouts and FIRST LEGO League partner to hold Lego Robotics tournaments each December.  FIRST LEGO League is a STEM-based program that engages children in playful and meaningful learning while helping them discover the fun in science and technology. The FIRST LEGO League is comprised of student teams ages 9 -14 who choose a real world problem to research and develop a solution by designing, building, and programming an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS that will compete against others on a table-top playing field to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game.

We need volunteers to serve in a general capacity:  helping with check-in, directing traffic, etc.  We also need Judges and Referees, roles that require training prior to the tournaments.  Trainings for judges and referees are online 24/7.

Judges will score teams on Core Values, Project and Robot Design. Judges are asked to get certified online (a 24/7 system) at the FIRST Training Center using the instruction attached to this email. By becoming certified online we believe the judges will act as role models to the teams at the event by having a positive and energetic attitude.

Referees will observe matches, identify rule violations, assess field for scoring of matches, and participate in deliberations regarding contested calls and official scores. Referees are required to attend an online training session. We feel this training creates some of the best referees in the country and makes the event a great success year after year.

This is a great opportunity for volunteers who are interested in STEM, youth, engineering, Robots, Legos and more!
