The Salvation Army will have an INDOOR carnival to celebrate our Donut Day. The Salvation Army is widely credited with popularizing the donut in the United States by feeding American Soldiers the tasty treat during World War I.
Approximately 250 Salvation Army volunteers provided assistance to American soldiers in France starting in 1917 during World War I.
These women, who became know as "Doughnut Lassies" served countless treats to grateful soldiers, traveling through the trenches to bring men donuts and coffee.
American soldiers during WWI couldn't resist Salvation Army donuts. They eventually earned themselves the nickname "doughboys" and brought their love of donuts back to America.
